JENSEN GETS FIRST TOP 10 AT ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S TOUGHEST WEEKLY LATE MODEL TRACKS

July 30, 2008

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chuck Jensen continues to gain experience and make progress in his first season racing stock cars on asphalt at one of the most competitive weekly late model tracks in the country, Greenville-Pickens Speedway.

On Saturday night Jensen, 18, moved from his 14th-place starting position to as high as seventh before getting tagged from behind and spun out around the halfway point in the 40-lap feature. Jensen restarted the race in 18th and made his way back to 10th position to garner his first career top-10 finish at the tricky Upstate South Carolina half-mile oval. 26 late models started the event.

“We had a really good run going, and I thought we were in line for a sixth or seventh,” Jensen said. “We got tagged and spun out there and it was a tough break, but we stayed focused and ended up getting back up to 10th. I’m happy with the effort of the team; I think we’re starting to get this late model thing figured out.”

Saturday marked Jensen’s second race back from a May accident that caused the Champion Printing No. 89 to miss five weeks of racing while being repaired. The 18-year-old Simpsonville, S.C., resident has improved with each race out and is now looking to try his hand at some other Carolina short tracks.

“We’re thinking about doing some traveling, maybe to Hickory or Tri-County here soon. We’d like to get some experience at different tracks. I think that’ll help my driving and our experience as a team. Running at Greenville is great because the level of competition is so high and the track is tough to drive, but I think it’s time to try some different tracks, especially since we’re not in the points anywhere,” Jensen added.

Chuck Jensen is a native of Texas who now resides in Simpsonville, S.C. A former W.K.A. kart champion, Jensen competed in IMCA dirt modifieds in Texas in 2007. He moved to South Carolina prior to the start of the ’08 season and is gaining experience while running competitively against a tough field of racers at Greenville’s tricky half-mile oval.

Chuck Jensen makes successful return to Greenville Pickens Speedway

June 24th, 2008

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chuck Jensen made his return to late model racing at Greenville-Pickens Speedway Saturday night after a violent accident caused him to miss five weeks of racing at the South Carolina oval.

Jensen started 22nd in the first of two 25-lap late model features and finished 11th. In the second feature, he started 11th and finished 12th. 23 cars started each feature.

Jensen was pleased to be back racing after the early May accident.

“It was a hard crash, but I’m glad we got the work done and are back at the track. I got loose off Turn 2 and overcorrected the car and it shot into the outside wall. Basically everything in the front of the car except the engine needed to be replaced,” Jensen said, referred to the early May accident.

The night wasn’t without tense moments, though, as the right-front hub broke on Jensen’s Leicht late model during practice.

“The hub broke going into Turn 3 and I hit the wall. Thankfully, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the last wreck and we got it fixed for the race. We missed qualifying because of the crash so we had to start the first race in the rear. The night was a good experience for me; the car ran great and we passed a lot of cars and I got some good seat time with the two races. The car was like new with the new front clip on it,” Jensen added.

Next up for the 18-year-old racer is a regular 40-lap late model feature Saturday night at Greenville.

CHUCK JENSEN SHOWS PROGRESS AT CHALLENGING GREENVILLE-PICKENS SPEEDWAY

April 14, 2008

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development racer Chuck Jensen started 18th and finished 16th in his second late-model race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway Saturday night.

The day began with lots of rain and it was doubtful that the race would be held that night. Normally there would be two hours practice in the morning, but the rain kept the cars off the track on Saturday morning. The sky cleared by mid afternoon and the cars were allowed on the track to practice.

The 18-year-old native Texan moved up to 12th in the early stages of the 40-lap feature before the handling on his Leicht late model went away throughout the second half of the race.

“The learning curve is starting to go a little quicker. The first week the engine was running on seven cylinders and it obviously hurt us. We had to wait out the rain outs the last few weeks to get back to the track, but we finally got there on Saturday and I thought the day went pretty well. We still have a lot to learn with the setup, but as long as we can keep rolling it on the trailer at the end of the nights I think we’ll be okay.”

“We were really good in the first half of the race,” Jensen said Sunday. “We passed cars and got up to 12th before the car got really tight in the last 20 laps. There were a bunch of cautions too, and that didn’t help because it kept bunching up the field. With a tight racecar we could’ve done without the cautions towards the end.

Jensen’s next race is a 40-lap Late Model Stock affair on Saturday, April 26 at Greenville-Pickens.

CHUCK JENSEN GAINS EXPERIENCE, TOP-15 FINISH IN FIRST LATE MODEL RACE

March 26, 2008

Greenville, S.C. – Team Full Throttle (TFT) NASCAR Driver Development racer Chuck Jensen finished a respectable 15th and 16th in Greenville Pickens Speedway’s (S.C.) 2008 season opening twin 50-lap features for Late Model Stocks Saturday night. 31 late models were in attendance for the opener.

The night marked the first late model race for the 18-year-old former dirt modified racer.

“We gained a lot of experience and did a lot of learning,” Jensen said. “We finished both races which was the main objective coming into the day. The entire day of practice really helped. At this point we just want to get me as much seat time and experience as we can.”

After inspecting the car, Jensen and his team discovered they were battling an engine problem throughout the day’s events. “The engine seemed flat all day, so first thing on Sunday we went through it and realized we were running on 7 cylinders. There was a problem with one of the spark plugs which caused a cylinder to be down all day.”

Ironically, Jensen has signed a new sponsor for the 2008 season – NGK Spark Plugs, and will begin using the plugs in the coming weeks.

Jensen’s next race is this Saturday at Greenville Pickens. He plans to race the full 2008 schedule at the Upstate South Carolina half-mile oval.

CHUCK JENSEN READY FOR LATE-MODEL DEBUT THIS WEEKEND

 March 13, 2008

(Greenville, SC) – Team Full Throttle (TFT) NASCAR Driver Development racer Chuck Jensen has successfully completed a recent relocation from his home-state of Texas , to Simpsonville , S.C. , and will get on track this Saturday night when Greenville-Pickens Speedway, in Greenville , S.C. , waves the green flag on their 2008 season.

Jensen, 18, will also be making the transition from dirt to asphalt after racing an IMCA Modified in Texas last season.

“We tested last Saturday and it went well,” he began, referring to the open test Greenville-Pickens held. “It’s was my first time back on the asphalt in a while, so of course it was a learning curve. We were on old tires and the car was pushing, and then it was pretty loose on exit. The day was just about getting seat time. I think when we put new tires on the car we’ll be pretty good.”

Jensen has been anticipating this Saturday for months, but has no unrealistic goals when it comes to this weekend’s opener. “This Saturday, and these first few weeks, are simply about getting seat time and finishing races. We want to be competitive, but not tearing up equipment and finishing races is what’s most important for these first few weeks.”

When asked about this season’s top priorities and goals, Jensen made it quite clear. “Rookie of the Year at Greenville-Pickens is our main goal. We want to do well in points and maybe do a little traveling up to Hickory (Motor Speedway, N.C.), but that all depends on how the learning curve goes at Greenville-Pickens. We really want to win the Rookie of the Year award. I think that’d be pretty cool.”

Jensen will field a 2004 Leicht chassis this season. Marketing partners for the team include Champion Printing, UPR Racing, Mile High Executive, and TFT.

Chuck Jensen Preparing For Greenville Pickens Late Model Season

February 14, 2008

(Greenville, SC) - Team Full Throttle racer Chuck Jensen relocated from his home in Copper Canyon, TX to Greenville, SC recently, and is teaming with last year's Greenville-Pickens Speedway NASCAR Late Model Series track Champion David Roberts in his quest for the 2008 Rookie of the Year crown.

"Having David Roberts overseeing our Leicht Chassis car for the year is going to help me out a lot," Jensen said. "David knows those cars inside and out, and is going to be able to teach me about how the cars work in addition to being a driver coach for me at the track each week. I'm looking forward to the first open practice on Saturday, March 1st so I can get some seat time and start learning about pavement Late Models.

Jensen's career began in IKF Sprint Karts where he was a multi-time winner and champion before moving last year to the IMCA Modifieds on dirt where he competed against an average of 40 cars per week in the Texas area.

Chuck Jensen Give Kids at Halloween Festival a Real Treat

November 6, 2007

(Double Oak, TX) – Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Racer Chuck Jensen was given an opportunity to help make Halloween time a special experience for the kids in Double Oak, TX, and he jumped at the opportunity.  The IMCA Modified racer had his car on display in front of Town Hall at the recent Halloween Festival, answering questions, posing for photos, and signing autographs for nearly 400 youngsters.

The 17-year old High School senior, who will graduate a semester early so he can relocate to Charlotte, NC to pursue his goal of racing in NASCAR under the watchful eye of the Team Full Throttle NASCAR Driver Development Program, says the festival was as much fun for him as it was for the kids in attendance.  “Oh I had a great time,” he said, flashing his easy smile.  “The kids really enjoyed sitting in the car and getting their pictures taken.  There was one little boy dressed up in a Jeff Gordon racing suit, and his eyes just lit up when he got to sit in the car.  I really appreciated Double Oak Mayor Pam King inviting me to bring the car, and I hope we made the festival a little more enjoyable for everyone that came by.”

Team Full Throttle founder and Vice President Tom Baker says the program Jensen is in affords a golden opportunity for companies to brand themselves with the rising motorsports star in a stepladder situation.  “We have the program lined out for him based on his performance.  He accomplished all of our goals for him this year with the IMCA Modified on dirt, so we’ll move him to the pavement at Hickory Motor Speedway in 2008 to run a NASCAR Late Model, and then test him late in the year for a Busch East Series ride in 2009 if he does well.  We’ve got an excellent activation and support system for marketing partners who wish to take advantage of Chuck’s excellent speaking ability and likeable personality and get in on a ground floor level.  We will work with those companies to ensure that a motorsports marketing program provides a strong return for them for years to come.”
